We've kept the French names going in Quelle Surprise's line, and this cria is no exception. Boucle (pronounced "boo-CLAY") means "curly" in French - the closest thing that we could find to a meaning for "crimpy" to go with her lovely fleece. Even at shearing Boucle at five weeks of age, her fleece was soft, crimpy, and had some weight to it!
Just like her dam, Boucle is curious, solid, and conformationally sound and square. Her skin and nails are dark, perhaps from the genetics of her sire, Black Peruvian Royal Forest, or her grandsire, the famous grey, Silverado.
We had our hands full when she was born - arriving at the very same time as Dencia's cria, Morning Sky's Mint's D'Lovely, but Boucle was on the ground first! It was a good morning, with two beautiful new girls!
In her oral reasons at the 2010 Best of the US Alpaca Show, judge Diana Timmerman said that Boucle deserved the blue ribbon because of her crimp character, conformation and length of staple since shearing. Judge David Barboza also said that she was deserving of a blue ribbon at the 2010 PAOBA Breeders Showcase for her fineness and correct conformation.
